As the name says, each strip of flooring is nailed or stapled down to the subflooring. This application requires the subfloor to be plywood or approved OSB. It can be installed on or above grade.
- Engineered Floors:
These are strips of engineered wood that are glued, nailed, stapled, or floating directly to the sub-flooring underneath. This application can be installed above, on or below grade.
- Floating Floors:
This type of flooring usually has a built in locking system that locks together with each other. If gluing is required; it is used to connect each strip of hardwood to the next. This type of pre-finished hardwood essentially "floats" over the sub-floor and has a cushioned padding underneath it. This flooring can be used over most types of sub floors.
